What Transpired When Boko Haram Invaded Community In Borno

Boko Haram insurgents have killed an army captain and a soldier in an attack on Izge community in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, was confirmed by the Emir of Gwoza, HRH Alhaji Mohammed Shehu Timta.

He stated that the terrorists invaded the community around 1 am and engaged the troops in a gunfight.

“It’s true that my people in Izge community came under Boko Haram attack around 1am. Unfortunately, a Captain and a Soldier paid the supreme price,” the Emir said.

However, he also noted that the Nigerian troops, along with the Civilian JTF, hunters, vigilantes, and community members, retaliated, killing three of the terrorists.

The insurgents reportedly abandoned their weapons and over 10 motorcycles and are currently being pursued by security forces.

The Emir prayed for the souls of the deceased soldiers and commended the troops and other security operatives for repelling the attack.

He also thanked the Borno State governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for his logistical support to the security forces and urged the federal government to provide them with advanced technological warfare equipment.

This attack is part of a series of recent Boko Haram offensives in the North East. On Saturday, the terrorists attacked the 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, resulting in the death of at least four soldiers and the destruction of military equipment.

This occurred shortly after the North East Governors Forum met to discuss a comprehensive strategy to combat the insurgency.

Buni Yadi is located approximately 65km from the Yobe State capital, Damaturu, and is the hometown of the state governor, Mai Mala Buni.

The latest incident comes two weeks after President Bola Tinubu directed service chiefs to put an end to the killings.
