Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has extended his congratulations to the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, formerly Cardinal Robert Prevost, on his landmark appointment as the 267th Pope.
Otedola, in his capacity as the Chancellor of Augustine University, shared a photograph on Instagram on Friday of the Pontiff during his 2016 visit to the Augustinian community in Abuja, Nigeria, when he was the Bishop of Chiclayo, Peru.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Governing Council, and Management of Augustine University Ilara, Epe, Lagos State, I, Femi Otedola CON, Chancellor, proudly congratulate our new Pope, Leo XIV @Pontifex, a devoted Augustinian Priest from whom our University draws its name and heritage,” Otedola stated.
He also highlighted the significance of the new Pope’s past connection to Nigeria, noting, “We are especially proud that His Holiness visited the Augustinian community in Abuja in 2016, where he commissioned key projects.”
Otedola concluded his message with a prayer: “We pray for God’s guidance as he undertakes the sacred responsibility of leading 1.5 billion Catholics around the world.”
During his 2016 visit, the then Bishop Prevost had shared a photo online with Catholic leaders, including both international guests and Nigerian clergy, commemorating the first General Chapter of the Order of St. Augustine held on the African continent in Abuja, Nigeria.
