Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has mourned the loss of his mother-in-law, Hajiya Rahama, who passed away on Friday at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Shika, Zaria, after a brief illness.
Hajiya Rahama, the mother of Hajiya Hussaina, Speaker Abbas’s first wife, was laid to rest at the Tukur-Tukur cemetery in Zaria following Jumma’at prayers on Friday, as announced in a statement by her younger brother, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, a director at the Northern Elders Forum.
Speaker Abbas expressed his deep sadness, describing the late Hajiya Rahama as a woman of exceptional virtue and a symbol of motherhood for everyone.

He said, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved sister, Hajiya Rahama, the mother of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas. Hajiya Rahama departed this world following a brief illness at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Shika, Zaria. Her passing marks a profound loss for our family and the community at large.”
The burial was attended by family, friends, and dignitaries, including Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Usman Bello Kumo, and Minority Whip, Hon. Ali Isa, along with district heads from the Zazzau Emirate and respected clerics.
In his statement, Suleiman highlighted Hajiya Rahama’s commitment to uplifting others and her lasting impact on her family and community. “Hajiya Rahama’s life was marked by her unwavering commitment to uplifting the lives of those around her. Her nurturing spirit and dedication to her family and community have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Speaker Abbas also added, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of our mother, Hajiya Rahmatu Bello Mukaddas, who was more than a mother-in-law to me. She lived a virtuous life worthy of emulation. Not only was she a peacemaker, but she was also a symbol of unity. She leaves behind a legacy of selflessness, tolerance, and love.”
