IPOB Killed Gulak In Imo During Kanu’s Sit-At-Home – Witness Tells Court

A witness for the Federal Government, identified only as BBB, presented a certified true copy (CTC) of Ahmed Gulak’s death certificate in court on Wednesday.

Gulak, a former Special Adviser on Political Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, was allegedly murdered by members of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in 2021 for supposedly disobeying their sit-at-home order.

BBB, the second prosecution witness (PW-2), whose identity is protected in the ongoing trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, submitted the document to Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

This occurred while BBB was being led in evidence by the Federal Government’s lawyer, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN.

At the resumed hearing, Awomolo informed the court that although the session was scheduled for the cross-examination of PW-2, he had an additional question for the witness. Kanu’s lawyer, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, did not object, and the judge allowed Awomolo to proceed.

Awomolo then asked BBB to confirm his previous testimony that during a radio broadcast, Kanu had called for a sit-at-home, which ultimately led to Gulak’s death.

The witness affirmed this statement and stated that he had participated in some of the investigations related to Gulak’s death and possessed a death certificate issued by the police, dated July 18, 2021, which he had brought to the courtroom.

The witness identified the document as “a certified true copy of the medical report of Ahmed Gulak.” When shown the document, Agabi raised no objection.

Consequently, Justice Omotosho admitted it as evidence and marked it as Exhibit PWJ. Awomolo then requested and received the court’s permission for the witness to read the contents of the death certificate aloud.

BBB read the death certificate, stating that it was from the Nigeria Police in Owerri, Imo State, concerning Ahmed Gulak, who was allegedly shot dead by hoodlums belonging to IPOB in 2021.

Following this, Agabi commenced his cross-examination of the witness.
