Nollywood Actress Monalisa Stephen Is Dead

Nollywood actress and advocate for body positivity, Monalisa Stephen, has passed away at the age of 31 due to complications arising from low blood sugar and internal bleeding.

The sad event occurred on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Lagos, as confirmed by a close relative.

The news of her demise was shared with the public on Wednesday morning by Seun Oloketuyi, the Chief Executive Officer of Best of Nollywood (BON), through a post on his official Instagram page.

In his post, Oloketuyi conveyed the confirmation received from Monalisa’s immediate younger sister, stating that the “hardworking and beautiful soul” had succumbed to the health issues in Lagos the previous day.

Monalisa Stephen was well-known for her outspoken views on body image, mental health, and self-love, which often sparked considerable discussion online.

Beyond her advocacy, she was also active as a model, content creator, and media personality, utilizing her platforms to openly discuss her past experiences with depression and suicidal ideation.

In April 2023, she became a trending topic when she shared details about her then-boyfriend performing oral sex on her during her menstrual period, a revelation that elicited strong and divided reactions from the public, leading to significant online backlash.

Despite facing controversies, Monalisa remained a vocal proponent of confidence among plus-size women, asserting to critics that she was “living her truth.”

While her fans are now mourning her death, many have noted her recent absence from social media as a potential indication that something was amiss.

At the time of reporting, her family had not released an official statement, but tributes from her fans and followers were already circulating online, acknowledging Monalisa Stephen as a powerful and significant voice in a world that often pressures individuals to remain silent.
