Political activist Aisha Yesufu has intervened in the controversy surrounding the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), demanding the dismissal of the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.
During a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede tearfully admitted that technical issues during the 2025 UTME led to widespread failures, especially in five South-Eastern states and Lagos.

Responding to Oloyede’s statement, Yesufu used her X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday to call for the removal of the Minister of Education, under whose authority JAMB operates. “If Nigeria had a President, the Minister of Education would have been sacked immediately. That man came to say it was measures they put in place to stop cheating that led to the mass failure,” she wrote, further questioning, “Wait a minute, or is it that something was actually put in place to massively fail students?”
Yesufu’s comments follow increasing concerns about the high failure rate in the 2025 UTME. While Professor Oloyede attributed the poor performance to new anti-cheating measures, education stakeholders have pointed to other underlying problems.
Reportedly, technical glitches such as computer malfunctions and power outages disrupted the examination process in several centers.
Additionally, factors like insufficient teachers, outdated curricula, and economic difficulties affecting students’ preparation have also been cited as contributing to the widespread failure.
