The kidnappers initially demanded ₦100 million but later reduced it to ₦5 million along with food supplies.

However, they also seized the two individuals who brought the ransom and demanded an additional ₦30 million for the release of all three captives, including Adepoyigi and the two ransom bearers.

The Chairman of Ose Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Clement Kolapo Ojo, confirmed the tragic news in a statement released by his media aide, Oluwaseun Ogunniyi, on Saturday.

The statement read in part: “While we are grateful that the two volunteers have now regained their freedom, it is deeply saddening and utterly painful that the life of Nelson Adepoyigi was brutally cut short by his captors. The entire leadership and people of Ose Local Government mourn this tragic loss. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased.”

Hon. Ojo also highlighted the deteriorating security situation in the area, urging residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

He called on security agencies to re-strategize and for the swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible for this heinous crime.

The Ondo State Police Command, through the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, stated that while they could not immediately confirm the killing, a team of police detectives has been deployed to the community to investigate the incident.
