An Enugu State member of the House of Representatives, Sunday Umeha, who represents the Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, has announced his defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Umeha made the announcement on Saturday during an APC political rally in Ibagwa Aka Community, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State.

Speaking at the rally, Umeha stated that the ongoing crises within the Labour Party (LP) at both the national and state levels made his defection necessary, as these issues were hindering his ability to effectively represent his constituents.
He also explained that his decision to join the APC was driven by the need to connect with the central government and bring his people closer to power, noting, “There are a lot of advantages in plugging to the centre.”
Umeha further stated that the APC has served the interests of the Igbo people better at the federal level than the PDP, citing the reconstruction of the Enugu-Onitsha and Enugu-Port-Harcourt Dual Carriageways as significant projects undertaken by the ruling party in the Igbo region.
This defection marks the first time the APC has an elected official in Enugu State since its formation over a decade ago.
