22nd National Sports Festival: Bayelsa Tops Early Medal Table At Gateway Games

Bayelsa State has taken an early lead in the medals table at the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival, dubbed the Gateway Games, currently being held in Ogun State.

According to the official tally from Thursday morning, Bayelsa tops the table with 19 gold, 10 silver, and 8 bronze medals.

Its closest competitor, Delta State, trails with 16 gold, 5 silver, and 9 bronze. Rivers State is in third place with 6 gold, 3 silver, and 7 bronze, narrowly ahead of Osun State, which also has 6 gold but only 1 silver and no bronze.

Edo State has accumulated a significant number of total medals, leading in silver and bronze with 4 gold, 17 silver, and 21 bronze—currently the highest combined tally of non-gold medals.

Lagos, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, and host state Ogun also feature on the board, with Ogun recording 3 gold, 9 silver, and 9 bronze medals.

Competition is expected to intensify as more events progress throughout the day.
