Olanipekun Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has cautioned Nigerians against prematurely declaring former militant leader Government Tompolo guilty of Naira abuse.
This comes after a viral video showed an unidentified man spraying N1,000 notes on Tompolo during his 54th birthday celebration.
Many Nigerians have since pressured the anti-graft commission to prosecute Tompolo, similar to others accused of Naira abuse.

In a recent interview addressing these demands, Olukoyede urged Nigerians not to condemn Tompolo based on the allegations.
He confirmed that Tompolo has been invited to Nigeria, and the viral video is undergoing forensic analysis to determine if it was AI-generated.
“We have invited Tompolo to Nigeria. The only Nigerians know that, and we said there is no one who’s above the law,” Olukoyede stated. “Nobody should condemn Tompolo for their allegation. It is just a mere allegation for now.”
The EFCC Chairman also emphasized the importance of granting Tompolo a fair hearing. “You cannot say Tompolo’s guilty or not. We must give every Nigerian fair hearing.”
