Akpabio Gives PDP Senator Appointment

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has appointed Senator Benson Friday Konbowei (Bayelsa Central), a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the new Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on the South-South Development Commission (SSDC).

Konbowei’s political career began in 1992 as a councillor, and he has since held various positions, including Chairman of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Council and a three-time member and Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

He was elected Senator in 2023, having also served as the former Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government.

Senator Asuquo Ekpeyong was appointed Vice Chairman of the 12-member committee. Other members include Senators Onowakpo Thomas Joel, Benson Friday Agadaga, Neda Bernards Imasuen, Allwell Heacho Onyesoh, Samson Ekong, Samaila Dahuwa Kaila, Mustapha Musa, Patrick Ndubueze, Idiat Oluranti Adebule, and Mustapha Saliu.
