Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has cautioned Nigerians against doubting the efficacy of prayer in national matters, asserting that the country would be in a much worse condition without the continuous intercession of its citizens.
Speaking at the RCCG national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, during a gathering of security and paramilitary personnel from across Nigeria, Adeboye stated that a terrifying difference would become apparent if prayers for the nation were to cease.
He posited that if intercession were paused for just one week, Nigerians would truly grasp the impact of their prayers.

“Some say, ‘You’ve been praying and fasting — where is the result?’ I laugh. If we had not prayed, Nigeria would have been in a far worse state. Let’s not stop. There is a God who rules in the affairs of men. If those praying would pause for just one week, the difference would be terrifying. Keep praying. God controls the hearts of kings,” he emphasized.
Adeboye further noted that while God’s protective presence may not be physically visible, it is clear to those who trust Him.
“Your security is only assured in Him. Whether in peace or war, young or old, the Almighty casts a shadow of protection over His own,” he added.
He expressed appreciation for the efforts of security agencies, stressing that divine protection remains unparalleled in safeguarding lives and property.
Attendees at the session included personnel from the Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigerian Navy, and Nigeria Immigration Service.
Pastor Dele Balogun, Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, also spoke, acknowledging the country’s security challenges and reaffirming the church’s support for security personnel through prayer.
He said, “We thank God for what He is doing in Nigeria. But we all know these are critical times for national security. These men and women have been saddled with the responsibility of defending the territorial integrity of our country. We’ve heard reports of some coming under attack, so we felt compelled to support them in prayer — regardless of their religious affiliation. We need them in this nation, and that’s why the church gathered to pray for peace and security.”
