Ex-CJN Mohammed Uwais Dies At 89

Mohammed Uwais, a former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), has died at the age of 89.

He passed away in the early hours of Friday, as confirmed by Dr. Kayode Ajulo, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State.

Uwais served as Nigeria’s Chief Justice from 1995 until his retirement in 2006.

Following his retirement, he chaired the Presidential Electoral Reform Committee, inaugurated by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

This committee included notable figures such as Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah and human rights lawyer Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Tributes from legal, political, and civic leaders are anticipated in the coming days.
