A fire broke out at the Imaratus Sanan Hotel in Mecca’s Sharamansur area, Saudi Arabia, which was accommodating over 480 Nigerian pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj.
Fortunately, no lives were lost as the pilgrims had already departed for Mina to participate in the symbolic stoning ritual, a core part of the Hajj pilgrimage.
The incident was confirmed by Fatima Usara, spokesperson for the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
She stated that the fire was quickly extinguished due to the swift response of the Saudi fire service and first responders, who successfully prevented any casualties.
At the scene, NAHCON Chairman Abdullahi Usman announced that efforts are underway to relocate and support the affected pilgrims.
Usman also commended both the Saudi fire service and the hotel management for their prompt and effective response to the incident.
