The Federal Government has canceled the traditional military parade planned for the 26th Democracy Day celebrations on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
No official reason was provided for this cancellation.
Instead, President Bola Tinubu will deliver a national broadcast at 7 a.m. on Thursday, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Democracy Day Celebration.

Later that day, the President will also attend a special joint session of the National Assembly at noon, which is expected to highlight key democratic milestones and government reforms.
The notice, signed by Abdulhakeem Adeoye on behalf of the Director, Information & Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, outlined a revised schedule of events:
- Presidential National Broadcast: June 12, 2025, at 7 a.m.
- No Democracy Day Parade.
- President Bola Tinubu to attend National Assembly Joint Session: 12 noon.
- Public Lecture on Democracy Day Celebration: State House Conference Centre, Abuja, at 4 p.m.
- Theme: “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms.”
The committee also specified that the public lecture will be covered exclusively by accredited State House correspondents.
