President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive personnel audit and skills gap analysis of the Federal Civil Service.

He issued the directive on Thursday in Abuja during the first-ever International Civil Service Week, explaining that the goal is to improve the service’s capacity and overall performance by placing the right people in the right roles.

“We can only guarantee a high-performance culture by placing the right people in the right positions,” he said.

He described the civil service as the “engine room” of governance and the “quiet architects of stability, innovation, and public trust.”

This audit is part of a broader plan to align the civil service with global standards and digital transformation.

Tinubu stressed the importance of accurate and secure data for evidence-based policy, calling data “the new oil” that becomes more valuable when refined and shared responsibly.

He instructed Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to publish verified data in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act of 2023.

The President praised the Head of Civil Service, Mdidi Walson-Jack, for her leadership in driving reforms, particularly in digitalization and staff development, noting that innovations like “Service-Wise GPT” reflect exceptional leadership.

Mrs. Walson-Jack stated that the conference was entirely self-funded through strategic partnerships, declaring, “If Nigeria must lead Africa, our Civil Service must lead first.”

The conference’s theme, “Rejuvenate, Innovate and Accelerate,” reflects the drive for renewal within the service.
