Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved a new management board for Kano Pillars Football Club, appointing former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa as the club’s new General Manager.
The move is part of the state government’s broader efforts to revamp and strengthen the club ahead of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
According to a statement released on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders in the football community after the expiration of the outgoing board’s one-year tenure.
Under the outgoing board, Kano Pillars achieved a commendable 9th-place finish in the recently concluded NPFL season.
As a result, most members of the board have been reappointed, with new additions brought in to enhance the club’s performance and inject fresh ideas.
The newly formed 17-member management board will be chaired by Ali Muhammad Umar (Nayara). Other members include Salisu Mohammed Kosawa, Yusuf Danladi (Andy Cole), Idris Malikawa Garu, Nasiru Bello, and Muhammad Ibrahim (Hassan West), among others.
Also retained are Abubakar Isah Dandago Yamalash as Media Director I and Ismail Abba Tangalash as Media Director II.
In a key strategic decision, the board proposed and secured the appointment of Ahmed Musa—an internationally recognized football figure and former Kano Pillars player—as General Manager.
Musa’s extensive experience at both club and international levels is expected to elevate the club’s profile and bring a new level of professionalism.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in the new leadership team, stating that the reconstituted board is well-equipped to build on previous achievements and lead Kano Pillars to greater success in the upcoming season.
“The inclusion of Ahmed Musa reflects our desire to blend administrative competence with football experience. We believe his presence will inspire players, attract investment, and rekindle supporters’ enthusiasm,” the statement read.
Kano Pillars FC, one of Nigeria’s most decorated football clubs, is expected to undergo major transformations both on and off the pitch under the new management.
