UNIJOS ASUU Declares Strike Over Unpaid Salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos chapter, has suspended its academic activities in protest over what it termed a delay in the payment of its members’ June 2025 salaries.

Branch chairperson, Jurbe Molwus, stated that the action would persist until the outstanding salary is settled, in line with an existing agreement with the government.

Citing a resolution from the union’s National Executive Council (NEC), which empowers branches to act if salaries are unpaid by the third day of any month, and with the local congress endorsing the move, ASUU members have halted lectures and official meetings.

Molwus added that the union would continue to down tools each time salaries are delayed beyond the third day of a new month. He also confirmed that the branch’s strike monitoring team is now active to ensure full compliance.

“Dear comrades, this is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June 2025 is not paid by 11:59 pm today, July 3, 2025,” he said in a message circulated to members.

“This is in line with the extant NEC resolution that ‘branches should take action when salary is not paid by the third day of a new month’ and our congress resolution of June 4, 2025, affirming this position.

“The action takes effect from 12:01 am on Friday, July 4, 2025.

“Please ensure full compliance until you are communicated to resume work. The strike monitoring team of the branch will be activated to monitor compliance.”
