Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has flatly dismissed any possibility of Peter Obi becoming Nigeria’s president, asserting that the former Anambra State governor’s political moment is over.
Speaking on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at a thanksgiving service celebrating newly completed projects in Abuja, Wike directly targeted the ADC-backed opposition coalition and its prominent figure, Peter Obi.
“Peter Obi can never be president again; his time has passed,” Wike declared.

He accused Obi of political inconsistency, alleging that the former Labour Party presidential candidate only began to criticize Nigeria’s democratic process after experiencing a loss of power.
“Now he says democracy is no longer working. But when he was governor of Anambra, democracy was working,” Wike added, ridiculing what he characterized as Obi’s changing stance.
Wike’s comments inject fresh intensity into the escalating verbal clashes between political factions in anticipation of the 2027 general elections.
