Two former governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede and Chief Agboola Ajayi, have formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), aligning themselves with a growing opposition coalition aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s government in the 2027 elections.
Among other notable figures who have also defected to the coalition are former Ondo South Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, former House of Representatives member Prof. Bode Ayorinde, former PDP State Chairman Tola Alabere, and ex-PDP Publicity Secretary Kennedy Peretei, among others.
At the launch of the coalition’s state chapter, coordinator Prof. Bode Ayorinde stated that the movement is rapidly gaining support across all local government areas in Ondo State.

“All the local governments are with us. Our numbers are increasing, and we will continue to build on the momentum,” Ayorinde said.
He explained that the coalition is not offering financial incentives but is instead committed to grassroots engagement and inclusive political participation, adding that membership cards will soon be distributed across wards and local government areas.
“The former PDP governorship candidates for the 2020 and 2024 elections — Eyitayo Jegede and Agboola Ajayi — are with us. Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, Mr. Tola Alabere, and Mr. Kennedy Peretei are also part of this movement,” he added.

Ayorinde made it clear that he is not seeking any elective position and called on ward-level leaders to promote inclusive politics as the state gears up for the upcoming governorship election.
“We started with just 25 members. Today, we are over 300. This shows the failure of the ruling party. Ondo will be the first to take advantage of the ADC platform.”
Former PDP Publicity Secretary Kennedy Peretei, in his comments, described the coalition as a timely and essential response to the prevailing political environment, pointing out that numerous influential politicians have already joined forces with the ADC.
“You heard Prof. Ayorinde mention the names. But beyond the big names, the reality is that the state of the nation and Ondo in particular demands a new direction,” Peretei said.
He revealed that in no fewer than two local government areas, PDP structures have completely integrated into the ADC, asserting that the PDP is effectively no longer present in those locations.
“People feared Nigeria was becoming a one-party state. That fear is disappearing fast. The reactions from those in power show just how much pressure the ruling party is under. After today, more ripples will follow.”
Peretei also claimed that there are internal divisions within the APC, adding that the coalition intends to capitalize on the growing dissatisfaction within the party.
“There’s a lot of bad blood in the APC. We are poised to maximize that opening. Nigerians should be ready for what comes next,” he said.
