Three PDP Reps Defect To APC

Two members of the House of Representatives from Osun State and one from Edo State, all elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Osun lawmakers, Taofeek Ajilesoro and Omirin Emmanuel Olusanya, along with Marcus Onobun from Edo State, announced their defections in separate letters addressed to the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.

During Wednesday’s plenary session, Speaker Abbas read the letters aloud, stating that the lawmakers cited irreconcilable divisions within the PDP as the reason for their decision to leave the party.

The National Secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, was present in the chamber to witness their formal defection.

In response to this development, the Minority Leader of the House, Kingsley Chinda, called on the Speaker to declare the seats of the defecting lawmakers vacant, citing constitutional provisions

These defections have further reduced the PDP’s numerical strength in the House of Representatives.
