Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has shed light on how the “Charly Boy” bus stop in Gbagada, Lagos, originally got its name.
In an interview on Channels TV, Charly Boy explained that the bus stop was named after him in the early 1990s as a recognition of his significant “contributions to that community.”
He recounted providing support to a diverse group of individuals, including “the military, pensioners, okada riders,” and even offering “scholarships out to people.”

He emphasized that “people from all walks of life in the community had benefited from his benevolence,” which prompted them to name the bus stop in his honor.
“Once upon a time, I used to live at the bus stop, people who were at Gbagada at the time felt it was just the right thing to name a bus stop after me because I contributed to that community,” he stated, adding, “So because of what I had done, the people thought it wise to name the bus stop after me, and that’s how it all started.”
However, the bus stop was recently renamed “Olamide Baddo Bus Stop” in honor of indigenous rapper and music executive, Olamide.
