EFCC Chairman Speaks On ‘Forcing’ NNPCL Boss To Resign

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has denied reports that he forced the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Bayo Ojulari, to resign.

In a statement released on Wednesday by EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede refuted a report by the online platform People’s Gazette, which claimed he had abducted Ojulari and compelled him to resign.

Olukoyede has since demanded a retraction of the story and a public apology from the platform within 48 hours.

While rumors about Ojulari’s resignation have been circulating, neither the NNPCL CEO, the company itself, nor the presidency has commented on the matter.

On Monday, amidst the speculation, Ojulari was seen at a public event where he advised Africa on creating “bankable energy projects.”

Olukoyede, through his lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), has written to the online platform, describing the report as “false” and “damning.”

The letter demands that the medium “acknowledge your wrongdoing, expressly admit that what you published and imputed against my client are false, apologise for it unreservedly and retract and pull down the stories from your newspaper website and social media handles.”

The lawyer warned that a failure to comply would result in a “Writ in the tort of defamation.”
