FG To Appoint KWAM 1 As Airport Security Ambassador After Aircraft-Blocking Incident

The Federal Government will reduce the flight ban on Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM 1, to a one-month period and will engage him as an “ambassador for proper airport security protocol.”

This decision, announced by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, followed a controversial incident where the singer attempted to block a moving aircraft.

Keyamo’s statement on Wednesday revealed that the sanctions were reviewed after appeals from the public and the musician’s “public show of remorse.”

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is also directed to withdraw its criminal complaint against him.

In his public apology, KWAM 1 had taken “full responsibility for all incidents” and sought forgiveness.

He explained that the incident stemmed from a water container he was carrying for a medical condition, stating: “I poured water in it because of my health situation. I need to be sipping water because I’m dehydrated, as recommended by my doctor.”

As part of the resolution, the NCAA will also restore the licenses of the ValueJet pilots involved after a one-month suspension.

Keyamo noted that these decisions were made on “compassionate grounds,” adding that the recent incidents had “helped to raise public awareness about appropriate conduct within the aviation space.”

He also directed all relevant aviation agencies to begin a retreat to retrain personnel on managing disruptive passengers.
