The Federal Government has launched the āBasic Education Transformation Agenda (BETA),ā a comprehensive reform package to boost school enrollment and improve learning outcomes.
Unveiling the initiative, Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa said BETA introduces āConditional Cash Transfers to mothers to encourage school attendance and introduces a Back2School Driveā¦under which the government bears the full cost of enrollment during official handovers.ā
The agenda targets key challenges, including out-of-school children, poor infrastructure, and outdated curricula.

Alausa announced that five million youths will be trained within four years, and that N120bn has been approved for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
Beginning in the 2025/2026 academic session, students in federal and state technical colleges will receive free tuition, boarding, and a N22,500 monthly stipend.
The training model will be ā80 percent practical and 20 percent theoretical.ā
The government also launched the STEMM Nigeria Agenda, which includes a N50m grant for undergraduate innovations.
Alausa said that basic education content has been updated, and āCivic education is now mainstreamed from basic to post-basic levels.ā
He also announced a 50% increase in scholarship grants and the disbursement of N77bn from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
He also noted that āAs of mid-2025, 27 states and the FCT had accessed N78.6bn, representing a 65 percent increase over previous yearsā in intervention resources from the Universal Basic Education Commission.
Alausa concluded by stating, āThe era of piecemeal responses to education is over. We are cleaning up the system, restoring standards, and preparing Nigerian children to compete and thrive globally.ā
