A Ukrainian lawmaker and former parliamentary speaker, Andriy Parubiy, was shot and killed on Saturday in the western city of Lviv.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has condemned the killing as a “horrific murder” and has vowed a thorough investigation.
According to police, Parubiy, 54, “died on the spot as a result of his injuries.” Authorities are currently searching for the gunman and said the motive for the killing was “unclear.”
Parubiy, who served as parliamentary speaker from 2016 to 2019, was a “prominent supporter” of the “pro-European Orange Revolution” in 2004 and the “Maidan Revolution” in 2014.
