Police Reacts As Thugs Attack El-Rufai’s ADC Coalition Meeting In Kaduna, Injure Several Members, Damage Vehicles

The Kaduna State Police Command has launched a “full-scale investigation” into an alleged political meeting linked to former governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, which reportedly “degenerated into violence and sporadic gunshots.”

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, the incident occurred at a political gathering organized under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Coalition without “prior notification to security agencies.”

The police had issued “repeated warnings,” but the organizers proceeded with the meeting, which the Command said “created a fertile ground for thugs to unleash violence.”

In a statement, the police said “preliminary findings” indicate that “political gangsters and thugs attached to the former Governor” were allegedly involved in the shooting.

The statement read, “Preliminary findings indicate that the gathering led to a clash, during which thugs and political gangsters attached to the former Governor allegedly fired gunshots, causing chaos and disruption of public order and peace in the state.”

Hassan warned that the police would not spare anyone “found culpable,” no matter how “highly placed.”

He also noted that the Command reached out to the ADC leadership, and party officials “denied knowledge of such a meeting” and “distanced themselves” from the organizers.

The police spokesman said, “The ADC leadership reaffirmed their commitment to the rule of law and distanced themselves from the claims of the former Governor.”

The police have also warned that hotels and event centers that host political gatherings without first notifying security agencies would “be held liable.”

The Command stated that it has “suspended all unauthorised political gatherings” across the state “in the overall interest of peace and public safety.”
