Tension gripped the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, October 19, 2026, when African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore publicly confronted a lawyer who allegedly labeled him a “tout” within the courtroom complex.
In a widely circulated video capturing the heated exchange, the activist and political figure was seen demanding an immediate retraction from the legal practitioner, identified as Yakubu, expressing outrage over the disparaging remark.
Why did you call me a tout? What have I done to you? You have to withdraw that insult. How can you say I am a tout? For what? For exercising my rights?
Sowore challenged the lawyer during the tense confrontation.
You have no right to insult me. I don’t have any problem with you. He is an idiot; he shouldn’t have insulted me in a courtroom. He’s a lawyer; he should know better,
he added, as supporters gathered at the scene strongly condemned the lawyer’s conduct.
The dramatic incident transpired shortly before court proceedings commenced in Sowore’s ongoing trial involving allegations of cyberbullying against President Bola Tinubu, where state prosecutors accuse him of calling the president a “criminal” via his official social media handle.
Legal observers and onlookers at the court premises urged decorum among legal professionals and litigants as high-profile political trials continue to draw intense public interest and media scrutiny.
