Israeli Airstrike Kills Houthis Prime Minister In Yemen

The Houthis have confirmed that an “Israeli airstrike” has killed the prime minister of the group’s government, Ahmed al-Rahawi, in the Yemeni capital city, Sanaa.

In a statement on Saturday, the rebels said al-Rahawi was killed in a strike on Thursday along with a number of ministers.

According to the Houthi statement, al-Rahawi, who had served as prime minister since August 2024, was targeted along with other government members during a “routine workshop held by the government to evaluate its activities and performance.”

The Israeli military confirmed the attack, stating that its forces on Thursday struck “a Houthi terrorist regime military target in the area of Sanaa in Yemen.”

The attack comes amid “escalating tensions” in the region, as the Houthis have launched attacks on Israeli and Western vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden “in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.”

The Houthis have repeatedly said that Israeli attacks will not deter their military operations in support of Palestinians.

Thursday’s attack on Sanaa came four days after Israeli strikes on Sunday killed 10 people and wounded more than 90.

The Israeli military said it targeted “Houthi military sites, including the presidential palace.”

On Wednesday, the Houthis claimed responsibility for a missile attack on southern Israel, which Israel said it intercepted.
