How I Was Sacked For Refusing To Condemn Saraki – Bolaji Abdullahi

A former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, has explained that his “loyalty to former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki,” cost him his job in 2014.

Speaking on the “Speak Your Truth” podcast, Abdullahi, who now serves as the interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), recalled the political events surrounding his sack.

Abdullahi said that when Saraki left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), he refused to publicly condemn his benefactor despite pressure to do so.

He stated, “I’m not going to condemn Saraki. He has not done anything for me. He’s been my benefactor. And I’m not going to fight anybody’s fight for them.”

He said he was “sacked” shortly after, calling it the “price I paid for loyalty.”

He added that he had “no regrets” and believes he is “one of the people in this country that can say I paid the price for loyalty.”

Abdullahi also offered commentary on the PDP’s current state, stating that while he “detests the politics of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike,” he believes Wike gained influence because other party heavyweights “abandoned the PDP and left the burden of post-election funding solely to Wike.”

He said, “PDP created a Wike by their own negligence,” arguing that “politics, like nature, abhors a vacuum.”

He concluded that despite the party’s recent moves to zone its presidential ticket, “nobody is really taking this decision seriously.”

He argued that the PDP is “already prostrate,” and that when people discuss the party, they ask, “Which PDP are you talking about? Is it Wike’s PDP or Bala’s PDP?”
