Mob Sets Motorcycle Thief Ablaze In Benue

A suspected motorcycle snatcher was “set ablaze by a mob” along Ibrahim Kashim road in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, on Tuesday.

According to an eyewitness, the suspect was part of a three-man gang that attempted to snatch a motorcycle from a rider.

The gang stabbed the rider with scissors, and as they tried to escape, one of them fell off.

An eyewitness, Andrew Tergu, said people “pounced on him dragged him to the main road where they set fire on him.”

The command’s spokesperson, Udeme Edet, confirmed the incident, stating that a police team arrived to find the suspect already “set ablaze.”

She also revealed that the victim “was recently released from a correctional centre, he was said to have been jailed for a similar offence.”

Edet condemned the act of “jungle justice,” stressing that the command “would no longer tolerate such actions.”
