Why Tinubu Reversed New Appointments At NTA

New details have emerged explaining why President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday reversed recent leadership changes at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

The President nullified the appointment of Rotimi Pedro as Director General and reinstated Salihu Dembos, along with other top executives.

According to a report by “PREMIUM TIMES,” the initial leadership changes were prompted by a “presidential aide” who argued that the NTA was “ineffective, losing viewers, and failing to adequately showcase government programmes.”

However, this change was made without the knowledge of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who oversees the NTA.

This was considered “embarrassing” for the minister, as it reportedly “bypassed the minister” and “triggered disquiet.”

Upon returning from a tour, Mr. Idris met with the President to express his concern and was given approval to investigate the claims.

The investigation’s findings revealed that the accusations were “false” and were orchestrated by “interest groups seeking control of the agency.”

After reviewing the report, the President immediately ordered the appointments to be reversed.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the decision in a statement on Tuesday.

He noted that Dembos would now “complete his three-year tenure,” and Ayo Adewuyi, the executive director of news, would serve out his term ending in 2027.

The directive “nullified the appointments of a new director general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.”
