National Grid Collapses

The national grid has “collapsed again,” with the megawatt (MW) generated dropping from “2,917.83 (MW) to 1.5 (MW)” between “11 am and 12 pm on Wednesday.”

Shortly after the collapse, the Nigeria National Grid X handle announced that “System restoration is in progress.”

In a subsequent tweet, the account stated that the “Disco loads” for all power distribution companies across the country, aside from Ibadan DisCo, had fallen to “zero megawatt.”

A “Disco load” is “the amount of power (in megawatts, MW) allocated from the national grid to each Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo).”

The tweet provided the following load data:

  • Abuja DisCo – 0 MW
  • Benin DisCo – 0 MW
  • Eko DisCo – 0 MW
  • Enugu DisCo – 0 MW
  • Ibadan DisCo – 20 MW
  • Ikeja DisCo – 0 MW
  • Jos DisCo – 0 MW
  • Kaduna DisCo – 0 MW
  • Kano DisCo – 0 MW
  • PHarcourt DisCo – 0 MW

At the time the report was filed, the DisCos had not provided any updates about the grid collapse.
