Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved a bill seeking to ban same-sex marriage and other acts deemed immoral in the state.
The proposed legislation, which will be forwarded to the State House of Assembly, prohibits same-sex marriage as well as practices such as Madugo and Liwadi (lesbianism and homosexuality).

This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa.
Dawakin-Tofa explained that the governor gave his approval during the 31st Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Kano.
He added that Mr Yusuf stressed the bill aims to safeguard Kano’s cultural and religious values, warning that offenders would face strict legal sanctions if it becomes law, as the government is determined to preserve the state’s moral standards.
