The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has declared his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027, stating that “it is his turn” to become the state’s chief executive.

A viral video showed Adelabu making the declaration during a stakeholders’ engagement with All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders.

Speaking in Yoruba, he adopted his principal, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s, famous slogan of “E mi Lokan” (meaning “it’s my turn”), arguing that he has paid his dues in the state’s politics.

Adelabu, who contested for governor twice and lost to the incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde (PDP) in both 2019 and 2023, emphasized that his time has come.

He had run on the platform of the APC in 2019 and the Accord Party in 2023, but returned to the ruling APC after his ministerial appointment in 2023.

He said:“I have been on this journey for a while now. I believe it’s not the day you start politics that you begin to reap the benefits.”

“I have now paid my dues. I contested against Seyi (Makinde) in 2019. In 2023, I also contested against Seyi, then as the sitting governor. But this 2027, God has shown that it’s my turn.”

He concluded: “It’s Adelabu time. Anything that belongs to Adelabu belongs to us all,” he said.

Adelabu urged party leaders and supporters to join him in the struggle to retake the state from the PDP and restore APC’s leadership.

He added, “I’m ready to take the lead to embark on a house to house campaign, day and night to beg our people in order to work together and reap the benefits.”
