Nigerians Will Deceive You Online With Retweets And Leave You Alone With Bullets On The Street – Deji Adeyanju Reacts To #FreeNnamdiKanu Protest

Activist and Lawyer, Deji Adeyanju has reacted to the #FreeNnamdiKanu protest that took place on Monday October 20th in Abuja.

The protest was organised by rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.

The protest which was intended to march toward the Presidential Villa was effectively foiled by security operatives.

The purpose of the demonstration was to pressure the Federal Government to release Kanu, who has been held by the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.

The protest initially began near the Transcorp Hilton, Maitama, but was quickly dispersed by security agents who swooped in and fired live bullets and teargas canisters to disperse the crowd.

The march’s planned route toward the Presidential Villa was completely blocked, as Armed policemen and soldiers mounted barricades at all major routes leading to the Villa and Central Area, preventing demonstrators from advancing past the Maitama and Transcorp Hilton axis.

Further attempts by the protesters to regroup around the Utako and Aso Mechanic Village areas were also broken up by armed officers.

In one of the viral video of the day, Sowore and other protesters were seen running after Police fired Tear Gas at one of the convergence point for the protest.

Adeyanju took to his official Facebook account to react to the developments from the protest of the day.

He wrote: Any protest that one million people are not coming out, I will not join. Nigerians will deceive you online with retweets and leave you alone with bullets on the street. They will then turn around to mock you and say you were only chasing clout or you are even working for the government you oppose. The era of putting my life in danger is over. I wish Sowore and others well. The only thing I can offer those arrested or wounded in any protest is financial support or legal services.
