Philip Shaibu who also served as Deputy Governor to Obaseki before he was impeached objected to the introduction given to Omobayo Marvelous Godwins.

It took some attendees at the event to intervene before Shaibu sat down after standing up to protest Omobayo’s introduction.

See video below:

After his impeachment as Edo State Deputy Governor on 8 April 2024, Philip Shaibu went to court to challenge the action.

The Federal High Court in Abuja later ruled in his favour on 17 July 2024, declaring the impeachment illegal and unconstitutional because due process under Section 188 of the Constitution was not followed.

The court reinstated Shaibu, ordered the payment of his withheld salaries, nullified the appointment of his replacement Omobayo Godwins, and barred the Governor and House of Assembly from stopping him from performing his duties.

The Court of Appeal in August 2024 upheld this decision, confirming Shaibu as the lawful Deputy Governor.
