Officials from the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development rescued a mentally unstable woman on Monday following a distress call.
Information gathered indicated that the woman arrived at the Panti police station in a ride-hailing vehicle and attempted to lodge a complaint against the sun.
Witnesses reported that she “insisted the sun was harassing her and demanded that officers take action.”
A distress call shared on Instagram alerted the ministry’s Rapid Response Team, which arrived at the location within the hour.
The team quickly transferred her to a state-run rehabilitation centre for immediate medical and psychiatric evaluation.
Ministry sources confirmed that she remains under observation.
Mobolaji Abubakre Ogunlende, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, commended the team’s professional and quick intervention.
In a statement, he noted that “Public vigilance through social media played a critical role.”
Toyin Oke-Osanyintolu, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, urged Lagos residents to report anyone showing signs of acute mental distress, stressing that “Early intervention prevents tragedy.”
Uber Nigeria confirmed its safety team “had flagged the journey after the driver reported erratic behaviour en route.”
The police at Panti declined comment on the attempted complaint, citing patient confidentiality.
