Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, issued a strong warning that Nigerians would actively oppose any effort by the United States to invade the country.
This resistance follows a statement from U.S. President Donald Trump, who had ordered the U.S. Department of War to prepare for potential military action against Nigeria.
In his post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Fani-Kayode denounced Trump as a “tyrant” and “sociopathic meglomaniac,” accusing the U.S. President of using threats of “violence and invasion” against Nigeria.
He lashed out at Trump’s audacity: “Imagine a deranged & sociopathic meglomaniac & tyrant, a recalcitrant and unrepentant schoolyard and dockside bully and a cheap and shameless godless scumbag like @realDonaldTrump threatening our country with violence, military action and invasion. What a nerve!”

Fani-Kayode mentioned that a friend had expressed concern about Trump’s comments, which led him to stress that Nigeria should not tolerate being treated as “subordinates” by Western nations.
He relayed his reaction to his friend, asserting that if the U.S. followed through with its threat, Nigerians would not flee but would “stand their ground and fight.”
He criticized what he saw as “cowardice and complacency” among Nigerians when faced with foreign threats, suggesting that such a crisis would highlight the need for “strong and courageous leadership.”
Paraphrasing his own response to his friend, Fani-Kayode wrote: “My response to her was as follows. ‘You are right. They are evil and, if he carries out his abominable threat, there will be a war. We shall not leave the country but we will fight it out with them. We behaved like cowards and allowed them to demonise us with no response. I do not know what is wrong with Nigerians but this will be the greatest challenge they have ever faced and maybe after it is all over they will appreciate the importance of having bold, articulate and courageous leaders & disavow themselves of their accursed cowardice, ignorance, pettiness, weakness, envy & complacency.’”
The former minister also leveled accusations against Trump, claiming he was associating with Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, who Fani-Kayode likened to a “modern-day Hitler.”
He also alleged that Trump was ignoring severe atrocities in Sudan while deliberately trying to apply a “genocide tag” to Nigeria.
He believed the U.S. president was trying to incite a major crisis by characterizing Nigerians as “killers of Christians.”
Fani-Kayode made this comparison directly: “Trump, a fascist & an associate of the globally recognized Hitler of the 21st century, @netanyahu, has refused to call the Israeli Zionist Nazis and the UAE-backed RSF butchers of Darfur, Sudan mass murderers and genocidal maniacs but he is calling our people the “killers of Christians” and is desperately trying to label our nation with the genocide tag and create a crisis in Nigeria.”
Fani-Kayode’s comments were prompted by Trump’s earlier post on Truth Social, which instructed the U.S. War Department to “prepare for a possible strike in Nigeria.” Trump had accused the Nigerian government of intentionally ignoring what he termed the “genocide of Christians” across the nation.
In his original statement, Trump had given a stark warning: “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
Trump concluded with a clear instruction and threat: “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”
