The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says he is open to supporting U.S. President Donald Trump or any other foreign partner willing to help Nigeria combat terrorism.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday night, Wike said he welcomes any form of international cooperation that enhances Nigeria’s counterterrorism efforts, noting that such alliances are common practice among nations.

“I have said I will support Trump in providing and supporting Nigeria with technology in fighting against terrorism,” the minister stated.

Wike stressed that terrorism is a global challenge that demands collaboration across religious and national lines.

“After all, so many countries have done that in fighting terrorism,” he said. “When you go to other countries, who asks, ‘Is he a Muslim? Is he a Christian? Is he a non-believer?’ No one does that.”

The minister’s remarks followed the ongoing controversy surrounding U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat of possible military action against Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.

Wike insisted that attention should be directed toward forging partnerships that enhance Nigeria’s security framework, rather than politicising delicate matters of religion and national security.
