Tinubu Sends Fresh Message To Senate Hours After Expedited Confirmation Of Ex-CDS Musa As Minister

President Bola Tinubu has publicly praised the Senate for the swift approval of General Christopher Musa (rtd) as the new Minister of Defence.

Musa, the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), was nominated by the President on Tuesday and confirmed by the upper chamber on Wednesday after approximately five hours of screening.

President Tinubu personally signed a statement and posted it on his official X handle on Thursday, commending the lawmakers and stressing the importance of the timing of the appointment:“Two days ago, I transmitted the name of General Christopher G. Musa, our immediate past Chief of Defence Staff and a fine gentleman, to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation as the Federal Minister of Defence.”

He continued by commending the legislative action:“I want to commend the Nigerian Senate for its expedited confirmation of General Musa yesterday. His appointment comes at a critical juncture in our lives as a Nation. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,”

The President had nominated General Musa to replace Mohammed Badaru, who resigned as Minister of Defence citing ill health.

This request, made in a letter addressed to Senate President Akpabio, came less than two months after Musa was relieved of his duties as CDS.

General Musa’s nomination and eventual confirmation occur during a period of heightened insecurity across Nigeria, marked by frequent mass abductions, particularly in schools.

A significant recent incident was the kidnapping of 25 students in Maga, Kebbi State, amid reports that security troops had withdrawn just before the attackers struck.
