Two members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing their departure to “internal crises and leadership challenges” within the party.

The lawmakers, Shamsudeen Hassan Basko, representing Talata-Mafara North Constituency, and Nura Dahiru, representing Birnin-Magaji Constituency, conveyed their decisions in separate resignation letters dated December 3.

Their letters were subsequently read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki.

Hassan explained that his decision to leave the APC was prompted by persistent crises, internal divisions, poor leadership, and the sidelining of members at both the state and local government levels.

He added that continuing his membership in the party no longer aligned with his personal and political convictions or the interests of his constituents.

In his own statement, Dahiru explained that his departure from the APC would enable him to pursue causes that “better represent the aspirations of the people he serves.

Both legislators expressed gratitude for the opportunities afforded to them while in the party and requested that their letters serve as their formal exit notifications.

Following his resignation, Nura Dahiru formally announced his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.
