Residents of the Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State are urgently appealing for government intervention following repeated invasions by herds of elephants.
The animals, which are crossing into the community from neighboring Cameroon, are destroying farmlands and homes.
A video shared online on Thursday showed dozens of elephants moving steadily through a stream toward the community while hundreds of residents watched anxiously from a distance.
Some villagers were also observed attempting to devise ways to stop the animals from advancing.

Residents believe the elephants may be straying from their natural habitats due to military operations in terror-prone areas.
The community is reportedly reluctant to call on security agencies for help after a resident was mistakenly shot last year while gathering firewood.
For now, the community has mobilized vigilantes and volunteers who are taking turns to keep watch.
Gamboru Ngala shares an international border with Cameroon and is still recovering from insurgency.
Residents fear that continued wildlife invasions could “deepen their humanitarian challenges if urgent measures are not taken.”
