TikTok Blocks Night-Time Live Streaming For Nigerian Users

TikTok has introduced a temporary restriction on its live-streaming feature for users in Nigeria, specifically disabling access during late-night hours.

The social media giant cited an “ongoing safety review” as the reason for the move, aimed at enhancing community protection.

Creators across the country received an in-app system notification over the weekend informing them of the change. At exactly midnight on Sunday, the platform sent a broadcast that read: “TikTok LIVE Update in Nigeria: We’re temporarily limiting LIVE late at night in Nigeria as part of our investigation to ensure our platform remains safe and our community stays protected.”

According to user reports, the feature is being shut down daily between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., during which time accounts display a “No Access” message.

This restriction not only prevents Nigerian users from broadcasting but also blocks them from viewing international live-streams during the restricted window.

This safety measure follows the West Africa Safety Summit in Dakar, where TikTok shared sobering data on content enforcement.

Between April and June 2025, the company took action against 2,321,813 LIVE sessions globally for violating monetization rules, with 49,512 of those bans occurring in Nigeria alone.

Additionally, TikTok revealed that it removed 3,780,426 videos in Nigeria during the same period for breaching community guidelines.

Notably, 98.7% of these were taken down before they were even viewed, highlighting the platform’s intensified push toward proactive content moderation.
