Davido Joins Accord Party

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has announced plans to officially join the Accord Party, aligning with the political path recently taken by his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The singer, famous for his hit song Unavailable, made the announcement on Tuesday via his verified X account.

He disclosed that he would be in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Wednesday to receive his party membership card.

“I Will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ IMOLE HOUSE OSOGBO Tomorrow… see you soon ACCORDINGLY 😇 Cc @AAdeleke_01,” the singer wrote.

This move comes less than two weeks after Governor Adeleke formally adopted the Accord Party as his new political platform ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Governor Adeleke had publicly declared his defection on December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osogbo, in the presence of both national and state leaders of the Accord Party.

At the event, he explained that internal leadership issues within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) influenced his decision to leave the party.

“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely November 6th, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This was after weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” Adeleke had said.

He further noted that the party’s ideology resonated with his administration’s priorities, particularly in the area of social welfare.

“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens and workers’ welfare,” he stated.

The governor also confirmed that he formally resigned from the PDP on December 1, after submitting his resignation letter on November 4, 2025, to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area.

Earlier, Davido had reacted to his uncle’s exit from the PDP by reposting the announcement on social media with the caption, “Jeje…”

Davido’s upcoming visit to Imole House in Osogbo to collect his Accord Party membership card has since sparked widespread discussion online, with many observers highlighting the increasing overlap between entertainment, celebrity influence, and political engagement in Nigeria.
