NFF Reacts To Reports Of FIFA Rejecting Nigeria’s DR Congo Appeal

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially refuted claims suggesting that FIFA dismissed Nigeria’s protest against the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The appeal centers on the purported use of ineligible players by the Congolese team during their World Cup playoff encounter.

Addressing the rumors, NFF Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Sanusi clarified that the federation has had no contact from the world football governing body concerning a verdict.

During an appearance on AIT this Saturday, Sanusi stated:“The Nigeria Football Federation wrote a petition to FIFA on the eligibility of some of the players of DR Congo, and if there is anything, FIFA will reply to the NFF.”

He further emphasized that the NFF’s official communication channels remain empty regarding any rejection of their case.

“The NFF has not received any letter from FIFA saying they have thrown away our petition. We have checked our emails, and there was no letter from FIFA,” he explained.

Questioning the source of the false reports, Sanusi challenged those spreading the news to provide evidence.

“I don’t know where they got their information from. If there is any such letter, let them show it, unless they have someone in FIFA giving them information ahead of official communication,” he added.

Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup hopes were dashed in November after a 1–1 draw resulted in a 4–3 penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo. Despite the loss on the pitch, the NFF maintains that its legal challenge is still active and under review by FIFA.
