Why I’m Not Joining ADC – Obi

In a swift response to recent political rumors, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has dismissed reports of a planned “defection” to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Clarifying his status on Sunday via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi explained that he cannot officially “join” a party that he has already been involved with as a foundational member of its broader political alliance.

He emphasized that his relationship with the ADC is rooted in a long-standing partnership rather than a new move.

“I am not joining ADC. I can’t re-join what I am already a part of. I’ve been part of the coalition from day one,” Obi said.

He further addressed speculations regarding the internal dynamics of the party’s 2027 strategy, debunking claims that other aspirants were withdrawing their ambitions in his favor.

According to Obi, the focus remains on a unified front.

“Nobody is stepping down for me in ADC. We have all agreed to work together, and Atiku remains my respected leader,” he added.

By mentioning former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Obi signaled that despite the evolving political landscape and his primary role within the ADC coalition, he maintains a high level of regard for his former principal.
