In a significant New Year message, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has effectively delivered the “Biafra” that the South-East region has long sought through unprecedented political inclusion and national integration.
Umahi, the former governor of Ebonyi State, stated on Wednesday that the current administration’s economic policies have successfully navigated the nation through its most difficult period.
He predicted a “massive turnaround in all sectors” in 2026 and urged Ndigbo to remain steadfast in their support for the President’s re-election, describing Tinubu as a “consolation” for decades of regional marginalization.

Addressing the political future of the region, Umahi insisted that the South-East must not repeat the voting patterns of 2023.
“Our people will never make the mistake of 2023. We shall remain resolute and stand strongly together behind Mr. President in the 2027 election. Ndigbo will not be deceived again by marauding politicians with sugar-coated mouths. One of our brothers is already saying that in 2027 he will be on the ballot, but I’m here telling Ndigbo that President Tinubu will be on the ballot, and once he’s on the ballot, all the Governors of the South East are on the ballot, and myself, the Minister of Works, is also on the ballot because it is our collective interest to support Mr. President, a man who has reopened our chapter and is massively investing in our future. Indeed, the Biafra is here.”
The Minister called for a mental shift within the region, advocating for “social reengineering and deradicalisation” to help the people understand that the goals once sought through agitation have now been achieved through acceptance as equal partners in the Nigerian project.
Beyond politics, Umahi provided updates on infrastructure, assuring the public that federal road projects nationwide are receiving sufficient funding.
He also announced a new enforcement strategy for highway safety.
“A special task force will be formed to enforce strict compliance with the directive that no truck shall be allowed to park on the federal highways,” he noted, adding that his ministry would collaborate with security agencies to protect travelers returning from the Yuletide holidays.
