Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, attended a church service at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Port Harcourt on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

The service was held in commemoration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Accompanied by other top government officials, the Governor and Deputy Governor made their first public appearance since the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated new impeachment proceedings against them on Thursday.

This latest legislative action marks the third attempt to remove the Governor from office in less than three years.

The interdenominational service was organized to honor fallen Nigerian heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country’s sovereignty and unity.

It also served as a time to pray for the souls of the deceased and the safety of personnel currently in active service.

While the state faces renewed political tension, Governor Fubara and his administration have maintained their silence regarding the seven counts of gross misconduct recently leveled against them by the state legislators.
