The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the suspension of four high-ranking officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu.
This Monday ruling also upholds the suspension of National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, Deputy National Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha, and National Organizing Secretary Umaru Bature.
The appellate court’s decision validates an earlier judgment by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, which supported the disciplinary measures taken by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The NWC originally suspended the four officers on November 1, 2025, citing “alleged infractions and actions considered inconsistent with the provisions of the PDP constitution.”
In its review, the Court of Appeal determined that the leadership’s move was “in line with the party’s internal disciplinary processes and could not be invalidated by the appellants.”
This means the sidelined officials remain legally barred from their roles as the party continues to navigate internal friction.
In addition to the personnel matter, the court upheld the October 31, 2025, judgment restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from “recognising the outcome of the PDP’s 2025 National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.”
Justice Omotosho had previously found that the Ibadan gathering was “conducted in violation of statutory provisions, particularly regarding compliance with procedural requirements and notification to the electoral body.”
With this latest legal blow, the “legality of the Ibadan convention continues to face judicial obstacles,” further complicating the efforts of Nigeria’s main opposition party to resolve its ongoing leadership crisis.
